Top 10 Reasons to Eliminate Dairy from Your Diet

From childhood we have been pushed to drink cows milk. We are told that yogurt, cheese and sour cream are all health foods and that is great news because, well, dairy products taste delicious!

Sadly for cheese addicts, the truth about dairy products are beginning to come to light. Please take a moment to read these 10 reasons you should stop consuming dairy today:

1.   It is made for cow’s– Cow’s milk is the perfect food with all of the nutrients, hormones, and fats in perfect balance…. if you are a cow! It is designed to grow a 65 lb calf into a 400 lb cow not to grow a infant into a human being. We are the only species that weans from human milk and takes up consuming the milk of another animal. Would it be acceptable to drink the milk of other lactating mammals? A dog? A tiger? A racoon?

2.   Poor source of calcium– We have been lead to believe that milk is an excellent source of calcium for our bodies. This is not true. We need to ask ourselves the question, “How do cows get enough calcium after they wean?” The fact is that cows as well as all other mammals (including humans) can easily get all the calcium they need from plants. In fact, kale contains more calcium per calorie than milk and is also better absorbed by the body than dairy.

3.   Hormones– Not only are the naturally- present hormones in cow’s milk stronger than human hormones, industrially raised cows are fed a steady diet of steroids and other hormones to plump them up quickly for slaughter. These hormones are present in the milk that ends up in the grocery stores for human consumption.

4.   Most cows are sick– Commercial feed for cows contains all sorts of ingredients that include, genetically-modified (GM) corn, GM soy, animal products, chicken manure, cottonseed, pesticides, and antibiotics. Because this is not their natural diet, the cows become sick. Milk comes from these sick cows.

5.  Dairy is acid forming– Eating excessive acid-forming foods can cause our bodies to move away from the ideal pH of 7.365. When our bodies become acidic many health problems can occur such as chronic inflammation of joints and an overabundance of mucous in the system.

6.   Osteoporosis– Research has shown that the countries whose citizens consume the most dairy products have the HIGHEST incidence of osteoporosis. This is due to the over acidification of the body. Alkaline calcium must be stripped from the bones to combat excessive acidity in the body. Over time, bones can become fragile.

7.   Pasteurization– Most dairy products are pasteurized to kill potentially-harmful bacteria. During this process, vitamins, proteins, and enzymes are destroyed. Enzymes aid in digestion so when they are destroyed, it renders the milk more difficult to digest therefore putting a strain on our bodies’enzyme systems.

8.   Mucous– Dairy products are mucous-forming. They contribute to respiratory disorders. Removing dairy from your diet could also aid in relieving hay fever and seasonal allergies.

9.   Inflammation– Research links products with arthritis. In one study on rabbits, scientist Richard Panush was able to produce inflamed joints in the animals by switching their water to milk. In another study, scientists observed more than a 50% reduction in the pain and swelling of arthritis when participants eliminated milk and dairy products from their diet.

10.  Cancer– Prostate, breast, and ovarian cancers have been linked to dairy consumption. And if you’ve read the China Study, you are aware of the link between casein (the main milk protein) and cancer. Dr. T. Colin Campbell, author of the China Study, says casein is one of the most significant cancer promoters ever discovered.

Dairy products taste really good and the habit is difficult to kick, however, it is well worth the effort to improve your health. And who knows, you may find you feel a whole lot better too!
