You might be wasting your time drinking water. Yes, that’s right. We all hear a lot about the value of drinking plenty of water each day. But without being mindful of one other crucial factor, the water might not have the affect you’re hoping. What is this crucial factor? Omega 3s.
Let me explain why, and also explain a little more about the importance of Omega 3s.
Drinking water may not hydrate us properly at a cellular level if we are deficient in Omega 3 essential fats. Your body uses up Omega 3s along with sodium and magnesium to get acids out of you. If you have any history of stress or trauma (that includes emotional trauma, illness, injury etc) then you may be depleted in Omega 3s.
There are two types of Omega 3. There’s the ‘bulk’ Omega 3 as I call it, that gives your body the raw materials to remove acids, and these include flax seed oil, hemp seed oil, pumpkin seed oil etc.
Then there are the ‘cellular’ Omega 3s. These are the long chain fatty acids that the body can use straight away, known as EPA and DHA. The best supplemental forms are marine phytoplankton and the Omega 3 algae oils for vegans and krill oil for non-vegans. Krill oil is particularly good in that it comes with its own built-in anti-oxidant called astaxanthin which means it has a longer shelf life. Fish oils are not recommended because they are often contaminated with mercury and they oxidise – go rancid – very quickly. Of the seeds oils, hemp is the best.
In my experience, most people with health challenges need to get these long chain Omega 3s; just the seed oils won’t be enough. They’re especially important if you have any brain issues like poor memory or brain fog.
It is possible for a healthy body to make long chain Omega 3s from the medium-chain oils like flax and hemp but the conversion rate will be low and for those with health challenges may not happen at all.
The bottom line is – have some krill oil every day. 2 caps ie 1000mg is enough for most people but if you have brain issues eg brain fog or if you have menstrual issues then you can have up to 8 capsules a day. Also make sure you have some hemp seed oil. It contains GLA which is the long chain Omega 6 fatty acid. Then you have everything you need in a safe and healthy form.
If your body has trouble absorbing and utilising water, minerals or Omega 3 fats, then you will be unable to rebuild jing (reserve energy) effectively. Whereas chi (everyday energy) is created in the digestive and respiratory systems, the organ system that relates to jing is your kidney organ system and if this is weak it will compromise more parts of you than you may realise. The kidney organ system includes not just the kidneys and bladder adrenal glands but also the brain and central nervous system, the bones joints tendons and ligaments, and the sexual glands and hormones.
This system is so interconnected, if you have chronic fatigue for instance, it’s common for you to not only have sore joints but also brain fog and poor memory, and you’re overly stressed and pee too frequently, and you have menstrual problems and so on. The good news about that is you may think you have ten problems or fifty problems when you actually only have one. That makes resolving the whole mess seem more manageable, when you know you just have to get more jing and heal the kidney organ system and the rest sorts itself out.
One of the challenges is that even when you’ve learned this and you give your body what it actually needs, it doesn’t know what to do with it. It’s like when you forget to water a pot plant for ages and it gets very dry. When you water it, the water doesn’t soak into the soil at first. The cells of the body can be like that when they’ve been dehydrated and deprived for a long time. If you get good water (especially spring water you’ve collected yourself), Omega 3 essential fats and electrolytes, that will help your body to take it up.
Even with fresh spring water, it can be hard for your cells to drink at first, it’s as if your body has forgotten. That’s where the Taoist tonic herbs can help.
