The Health Benefits of Vitamin D

In recent years there has been a lot of buzz in the holistic health world regarding vitamin D.

Vitamin D is the only vitamin that humans can create in their skin from sunshine. The amount of exposure that is sufficient for us is fifteen minutes in direct sunshine, three times a week (without sunscreen).

Sadly, many people live in colder climates and do not have a constant source of sunlight. If that is the case for you, you can take supplements to get at least 400 IU/day. The thing is, if the sun is shining, even if the temperature is 0 degrees, expose your skin and go outside, you will be able to produce vitamin D. Also, there are some food sources of vitamin D which includes salmon, sardines, beef liver, and egg yolk.
