“What oxygen is to the lungs, so is hope to the meaning of life.” – Emil Brunner
In the Chinese organ system, the lungs relate to the whole respiratory system, the skin, the large intestine, and the nose and throat. As well as pulling in oxygen, it’s the job of the lungs to excrete acidity and waste. They eliminate around 70% of the waste products from your body. The lung organ system as a whole also plays an important role in immunity. In the Taoist system, the lungs are paired with the large intestine (also known as the colon) and are also related to the skin. So any colon or skin problems will be about the lungs, as well as respiratory illness or weakness.
The commonest physical sign of weakness in the lungs is constipation. Also very common are skin problems of all kinds including dry skin, acne, dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema.
In emotional terms, the signs of weakness in the lung system are depression, sadness, grief, or crying for no apparent reason. Finding it hard to let go of things may be an issue, especially if there are large intestine problems. People who have serious lung problems tend to see the world as a dark, bleak place, and they may even feel apathy and despair.
The nose is linked to the lungs so any problems there are lung-related ie blocked nose, drippy nose, or sinus problems. Mucous problems in general are about the lungs, as is any feeling of tightness in the chest or not being able to breathe properly and having difficulty exercising.
Other signs of lung problems include; getting illness and infection especially if you are struck down more than once a year; blocked nose and sore throat; congested lungs; weak voice; constipation as I’ve mentioned or diarrhea, and low resilience ie you tend to get ill easily if you overdo things or if you don’t get enough sleep. Sometimes a metal taste in the mouth can indicate lung weakness. Any issues with the lymph system eg swollen lymph nodes will be a sign that the lungs are not doing what they are supposed to do.
If the lungs are not excreting enough waste from your body, then it’s possible you may develop liver problems as a knock-on effect because the liver (whose job it is to process toxins) may get overwhelmed with all of the extra waste products in the system. If you have any liver-related problems (see the relevant section) then always pay attention to strengthening the lungs as well, to prevent any recurrence.
Craving spicy foods often indicates a lung imbalance. Many people who really crave spicy foods are smokers. In fact, the desire to smoke at all is caused by a lung imbalance. Smoking can be used to suppress those very negative emotions mentioned earlier that are lung-related such as apathy and despair.
If you have strong lungs, you will benefit from excellent immunity. This means not only will you be amazingly resilient to illnesses and bugs but you will be able to over-exert yourself from time to time without it making you ill. You will be able party harder and get by with less sleep, and have more fun. You will be more productive because you’ll not need time off sick from work.
Strong lungs mean your voice will be strong and clear (especially relevant for singers, actors, public speaker and teachers). You will also have beautiful clear skin, and any rashes, spots, irritation will be a thing of the past.
The key thing to strengthen the lungs is to breathe well and to make sure the air you are breathing is fresh. Correct breathing means breathing from the belly instead of the chest and unlocking the tension in the diaphragm. These are by far the most important things.
In addition, you can take Lion Heart Herbs Immune formula, especially during the winter months, to ensure you stay healthy. Consistent daily use of the tonic herbs over a long period is what gets the really amazing results. But if you or someone you know has already succumbed to an illness, you can also use Immune to help you recover much more quickly. Make a large amount of Immune tea and keep drinking it at regular intervals until you’re better, which will happen much sooner than it would without the tea.
